Woodpeckers use drumming to signal territorial presence. In Drumming, wooden perches designed to accommodate their drumming posture are attached to signs, giving woodpeckers opportunities to occupy and interact with structures that communicate human claims to space. In doing so, Drumming brings two systems of territorial communication into proximity, where competing claims to space operate without a shared framework of recognition.
